Shake a martini and slip on that smoking jacket, we are headed to the loft.  When I began the initial design process for the loft, my goal was to have it feel like an old school lounge, think Hollywood Rat Pack mixed with modern conveniences. This was achieved by starting with Zimmer & Rohde’s gorgeous Cubismo drapery fabric from Jeffrey Michaels. The fabric pattern has a vintage feel but is full of saturated colors that give it a contemporary look. Pulling colors from the fabric, ArtHide worked with me to customize an area rug using a pattern in their portfolio.

While the loft has its own distinctive design, it was important to bring in elements from other areas of the house. By installing cabinets from Ultracraft Cabinetry that match the kitchen, a level of continuity is achieved. The cabinets provide flexibility to utilize the loft in a myriad of ways.  They currently house my Mongram refrigerator and icemaker but can be converted to closet storage should ever need be.  To accent the cabinets I used oversized Buster & Punch pulls.  This line of hardware is used throughout the project and provides a measure of unity and a surprise sheen throughout.  The countertop from Stoneville USA supplies a surface for my mixologist mastery and the visual whitespace required when such saturated colors are employed.

Furnishings and accessories were curated from a host of sources via Houzz.  I found a modern rendition of a leather Chesterfield sofa from Acme Furniture and paired it with a minimalist mid century coffee table by Sunpan and sculptural side tables by Pasargrad.  When I saw this gorgeous Chinoiserie desk from Johnathan Charles via Houzz I knew it would fit perfectly into the loft design. It added a hint of antiquity but when paired with a brown leather swivel chair from Moes and floor lamp from Kira Home it becomes a secondary office. What better place to work than in a relaxed lounge with gorgeous views of the LA mountains?

The light fixture was an important factor in the selections. With all the saturated colors and pattern of the drapery we needed something that would not overpower the room but would exude a sleek vibe to match our design. We found the perfect light in Kalco’s Redding Island Light. 

Pulling together the room is an amazing art piece by Shawni Young. One of my favorite idols, Dolly Parton, is brought to life in this custom handcrafted wall art. With pictures of record covers, magazine covers, and even a young John dressed as Dolly, this cheeky piece brings the sexy lounge vibe of the loft together.
