One of the driving factors into purchasing this residence was the desire to incorporate the John McClain Design LA office with my home.  The property provided the unique opportunity of a ground floor office with a separate entrance for my team and clients.  Our design directive for the space was functionality and simplicity.  In this new work world we are becoming accustomed with, so much of our business is being conducted on video calls.   To achieve a neutral but interesting backdrop we used Sherwin Williams’ Drift of Mist on the walls and Arte’s gorgeous Rondo wallpaper on the ceiling from Jeffrey Michaels. 

 

Lighting is key to an office, now more than ever.  Kalco’s Lavo light fixture looks sophisticated while providing generous lighting throughout the room.  These LumiSource desk lamps from Houzz were brought in for double duty, to provide task lighting and also to brighten the face during video calls. 

 

While we were blessed with loads of natural light in the office, there are times when controlling that light is crucial.  A neutral colored window shade from Smith and Noble helps us adjust the natural lighting in the office as needed.

The key element to any office is the desk, but what to do when you need the speed and ease of a ready made piece but the adaptability of custom?  Might we suggest a marriage of both?  We purchased ready made chrome filing cabinets and then fabricated a desktop with a sleek porcelain slab found at Stoneville USA.  To achieve the proper desk height acrylic stanchions were employed.  This amalgam provides my team with sufficient storage, ample work surface, and a collaborative environment. 

 

When working hard all day, it’s important to remember to stretch those legs once in a while and stay hydrated. Elkay’s ezH2O water dispenser is loved by the whole team. It’s filtered, cool water keeps us going throughout the day and we all feel better knowing that there is one less plastic bottle being used.

 

An office bathroom does not have to be boring. We brightened up the bathroom by painting the trim with Sherwin Williams Pure White. To make this bathroom function as intended, we chose a Newport Brass faucet and accessories from Snyder Diamond and a DXV toilet from Ferguson. All those who know me know I like to add a little glam to any room, even a bathroom. The crystal Allegri light from Kalco and the Buster and Punch hardware are the gorgeous jewelry pieces to this sleek and functional office bath.
