They say the bedroom is where the magic happens and I tend to agree! The birth of my bedroom design began years prior. I caught an installation image of Arte’s Artisan Fraction wallcovering that made such an impact, I knew someday it would be mine. The fractal pattern combined with suave colorations and bits of sparkle via its material makeup of real mica stone, had me hooked from the first moment. Our vendor Jeffrey Michaels found the wallcovering and thus the magic began.

The angular allure continues with a sleek and sexy ceiling fan from Modern Forms via Houzz and a stunning pyramidal custom bench of my design with upholstery from Fabricut via Jeffrey Michaels (note the matching toss pillows in the same fabric on the bed). Every angle however needs an antidote and ours was in the form of these stunning circular pendants from Kalco. Not only do they offer amazing light but also a dissonant design element that keeps interest high.

Boring bedside tables these are not! The Rhiana dresser by Noir via Houzz provides much needed storage and a landing zone for my evening read. The tying elements of angularity and saturated black hue support the other selections for the perfect combination of form and function.

To anchor the room in all its fabulousness I chose the tall, dark, and handsome Swallow Tail rug from Art Hide. The undulating charcoal tones, and smaller scale pattern provide balance and a sense of solemnity to the space. Art Hide allowed us to completely customize the scale and coloration of our rug giving us the ability to create the ideal foundation.

Does the bed remind you of anything? I designed this custom bed based on my love of Stonehenge in England. I always say that travel inspires our lives and this bed evokes the simplistic yet dramatic architecture of Stonehenge with its large curved “slabs” of elements that make up the bed’s design.

Great design is simple when you begin with one “GottaHaveIt” element and build from there. Find that one thing that inspires you and let it take the lead. I took color and geometric inspiration from the wallcovering to inspire the rest of my decisions for these magnificent results. Grab your wand and tophat, find your starting point, and make some bedroom magic!
