2023 is here! Let’s start laying bricks for what’s next! You didn’t need to start on Jan 1st or even on a Monday…start TODAY!  Learning how to declutter your home doesn’t have to be a toll or boring. Here are some creative ways to do so as inspired by Joshua Becker from Becoming Minimalist.

View your home as a first-time visitor. Looking at your home as if you are a visiting friend or guest trains your brain in creating habits to make changes and walk towards being more organized. This way you feel welcomed in your own home and your guests will enjoy it as well.

Donate clothes you never wear. Yes, this stings me too. “I’ll find an occasion, event, something to use it for,” I always tell myself but after a year or two it’s better at GoodWill than it is in the back of my closet. Hang all your clothes in a reverse direction and after wearing an item, face the hanger in the correct direction, then grab that tote, clean garbage bag, or anything that will carry the clothes you never even touched after a few months and fill ‘em up!

Get help from a friend. It is always good to have someone in your life looking from the outside in. Grab that friend, have them go through your home, and make suggestions on as many things they can for you to throw away, donate, or give to someone else. If you defend the item and can’t let go your friend then has to agree with your reasoning, and if they don’t… bye-bye!

As Joshua put it, “No matter which decluttering tip you choose to get started the goal is to take your first step in decluttering your life with excitement behind it. There is a beautiful world of freedom and fresh breath hiding behind that clutter. Deciding how to declutter your home is up to you.” These three creative ways were my favorites from this article and ones that I will apply to my life for my home.
