‘Tis the season for a Holiday Extravaganza issue! John McClain Design has put together some of our most adored holiday decorating advice just in time for the start of the holiday season. Visual learners get excited — because this month’s blog post is going to be super easy on the eyes.

The Tree.

No introduction needed! It is quintessentially the most important piece of interior Christmas decor. What theme will you go for this year? Our inspiration? Offsetting warm-toned baubles, like burnt orange and gold, with bright blue- and green-hued accents to brighten up a room and tie in the pre-existing decor. Unlikely Christmas combos give you a winning and unique combination — like the Grinch and Christmas!

Everything Is Within Wreath.

Go green! Incorporating lush green wreaths throughout your home gives it not only a cohesive look, but also one with a truly fresh appeal. Fresh greenery — like evergreen, moss, spruce, pine needles, succulents and other natural elements is all the rage right now. The best part about this trend? It can be sprinkled anywhere in your home. Think staircase garlands, window sill runners or front door framers.

Mix and Match.

We balanced Christmas trees of alternating height and tones with fresh cuttings of succulents and in-season citrus accents to compliment the color scheme set by the tree. Combining like items of different shapes and sizes like these can create displays that are both intriguing and stunning. 

Tradition Reimagined.

Speaking of putting a spin on traditional holiday decor — fresh flowers are a great way to introduce gorgeous and unpredictable pops of Christmas red on tables and countertops. Using lavish ribbon to embellish furniture, like dining chairs, is a great way to continue to incorporate your home’s existing color scheme while still giving it a festive edge. This is especially great for homes with vibrant colors!

Textured Tablescape.

Warm beige is the new winter white! Frosted trees enclosed with burlap and golden metal lanterns pay tribute to the farmhouse trend while still maintaining the sophisticated vibe of the home. Gilded evergreen and pops of floral red also continue to incorporate this theme throughout the tablescape. At John McClain Design we also love adding cozy elements, like fury throw blankets, to inspire winter in even the warmest of December temperatures.

View It From the Bottom Up.

We just love the view from this kitchen table. An upside-down Christmas tree chandelier hangs from the ceiling in beautiful alignment with the main tree in the living room. Whimsical decor can truly bring the magic of Christmas to life inspiring the little kid in all of us. 

Nostalgia Preserved.

Glass cloches are not just for the spooky season! Use them to display those cherished keepsake Christmas items with elegance. Enclosing the kids’ DIY school ornaments or Grandma’s tiny Christmas cottages gives a sophisticated edge to vintage classics. It’s all in the tiniest touches of detail that make an interior truly unique to your family’s story while evoking feelings of nostalgia and the true meaning of Christmas.
