Modern black living room

Cool autumn is all about making a statement and so can the interior of your home! This fall season, increase depth and add excitement with not just color intensity but also patterns, textures and showstopping decor. Break out your personality and bring on the bold with these great tips from the John McClain Design team:

Hue Saturation.

Our tip? Incorporate moodier colors like burnt orange, mustard yellow and burgundy wine. They provide more saturation and are ideal for evoking that warm and fuzzy feeling we all love about the fall season. Jewel tones like emerald green, royal purple and deep blue work wonderfully this time of year too and serve as great statement pieces — cue the tangerine orange ottoman. Incorporate these colors into your home by adding accessories to complement a room or even swapping out furniture and fixtures. But if you really want to go all out, paint is always the biggest game changer!

Pattern Pizzazz.

If you’ve ever wanted to do a patterned wallcovering now would be the time! Wallcoverings are making a comeback this year and we’re excited about it. Think outside of the floral wallpaper box of the past, and get inspired by the sophisticated edge wallcoverings can offer. They can be made of different types of material that provide extra durability. Popular materials include vinyl, foil, grasscloth, flock and fabric wallcoverings. We once amped up a client’s guest bathroom by installing a peacock blue grasscloth wallcovering to increase the “wow” factor.

A Touch of Texture.

Tactile and lavish materials like velvet, plush, silk and leather add texture to any room, increasing its coziness factor. You can appeal to the tactile senses by splurging on a new sofa or investing in some plush rugs. Another option is to refresh the furniture you already have. For example, try reupholstering dining room chairs with a velvet finish! It truly works wonders. Implementing different materials into a room adds dimension, creating an ultra-luxurious appeal. If you’re looking to spruce up a bedroom, for instance, try leather wall panels instead of a headboard. For your kitchen, you can add dimension by applying a unique and eye-catching backsplash.

Statement Pieces.

Focus on what draws out your personality. Where do you feel the most at home? Ultimately it’s you and your family who will be using the space, so make sure it appeals to your tastes. Unique statement pieces can be the focal point of any room and reflect aspects of your personality that truly make it your own. A statement piece is typically a striking item you can’t miss and can include sofas, murals, pieces of artwork or even a souvenir discovered on a homeowner’s travels. Our designers at John McClain Design once based the entire interior of a client’s home on a family heirloom to inspire the color scheme of his modern rockstar pad. Another glitzy and exciting way to make a statement? Intricate light fixtures.

Grab the nearest cozy blanket and call it a wrap because the bold has been brought!

Till next time…
Happy Designs!
